Accountability court on Monday, deferred Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman and former president of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari’s indictment in Park Lane reference case.
Asif Ali Zardari’s lawyer Farooq H Naek, filed a last minute petition against the reference citing that the case filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against Mr Asif Ali Zardari is illegal as and therefore should be nullified by the court.
He argued that the loan was obtained by a company and not Asif Ali Zardari himself, and that in loan default cases governor State Bank of Pakistan(SBP) is obliged to send a notice, whereas in this case Asif Ali Zardari has received no such notice.
During the hearing, NAB prosecutor urged the court to indict Asif Ali Zardari and other accused in the reference, to which Farooq H Naek requested the court to grant him some time to prepare his arguments urging the court to adjourn the hearing till Tuesday next week.
