Dr Zafar Mirza, on Wednesday, announced his resignation as special assistant to prime minister (SAPM) on health.
SAPM Zafar Mirza took to social media to announce his decision to step down as special assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Health.
“I have resigned as SAPM. It was a privilege to serve Pakistan,” he tweeted.
He has citied criticism on government regarding his nationality and the role of special assistants as his reason to step down.
I came to Pakistan on a personal invitation of Imran Khan leaving WHO. I worked hard and honestly. I am satisfied that I leave at a time when COVID-19 has declined in Pakistan,” he added.
This is the second high profile resignation in the day, as earlier SAPM on Digital Pakistan initiative Tania Airdus had announced to step down from her post. She too had cited criticism directed towards government as her main incentive to resign as SAPM.
