A woman was accidentally killed by Karachi police, when officers resorted to aerial firing in PIB colony, Tuesday night, to disperse the crowd amid ration distribution.
According to local residents, a scuffle broke out between two groups over the registration for ration distribution in the area. Police were called to de-escalate the situation, which resorted to aerial firing to disperse the crowd.
A 26-year old woman, who was standing by the window was hit by a stray bullet, she was rushed to hospital but eventually succumbed to her injuries.
Following her death, residents protested against police brutality and resorted to stone pelting on the police vehicle, accusing the head constable of being under the influence of alcohol.
All four police officers, responsible for the incident have been arrested for further investigation.
Sindh government has extended its province-wide lockdown till April 30. According to the issued notification, only grocery stores, petrol pumps, general stores, and pharmacies are allowed to conduct their businesses between 8 am to 5 pm.
Skilled labour, such as plumbers, carpenters, electricians have also been exempted from the lockdown on the condition of strictly adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and healthcare guidelines advised by medical experts.
