World Health Organization (WHO) has approved AstraZeneca-Oxford COVID-19 vaccine to be used across the world to stop the spread of novel coronavirus.
As per details, WHO has approved the distribution and use of COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by AstraZeneca-Oxford. The vaccine will be distributed under WHO’s ‘COVAX’ programme.
It is pertinent to know that COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by AstraZeneca-Oxford is only the second vaccine that has received WHO’s approval after Pfizer-BioNTech.
WHO plans to distribute 337.2 million COVID-19 vaccines under its COVAX initiative of mass-inoculations against COVID-19 coronavirus.
AstraZeneca vaccines manufactured in South Korea and India have amounted to the required 337.2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines under COVAX’s first wave of vaccine distribution which is expected to be delivered in February.
The development comes as earlier, WHO’s Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) on immunization had concluded that COVID-19 vaccine produced by AstraZeneca is safe for people above the age of 65 years.
