World Health Organization (WHO) has acknowledged Pakistan’s Dr Yasmin Rashid’s notable contribution in fight against COVID-19 coronavirus, terming her as an ‘outstanding individual’ who has saved thousands of lives through her ‘effective leadership.
WHO in its press-release on International Women’s Day, has acknowledged Dr Yasmin Rashid’s contribution and noteworthy leadership against fight against novel COVID-19 coronavirus in Pakistan.
On the eve of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2021, WHO acknowledges Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid among one of the outstanding women in leadership during the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, read the WHO press-release.
WHO’s Representative for Pakistan Dr Palitha G Mahipala has said that women’s role has been exemplary during the pandemic in healthcare settings around the globe…In recognition of Dr Yasmin Rashid’s untiring services during the pandemic, we are pleased to acknowledge among great women leaders in fight against COVID-19. She has provided great leadership in the crisis and remains on the frontlines of this combat.
For medical fraternity in Pakistan and around the world, Dr Yasmin Rashid stands out as ‘outstanding’ individual who has saved thousands of lives through her effective leadership…She definitely deserves to be acknowledged and honored, she added.
Expressing her views on WHO’s recognition, Dr Yasmin Rashid has expressed her gratitude to WHO for their recognition and acknowledgement.

Dr Yasmin Rashid is a retired Professor from King Edward Medical University Lahore and is currently serving as Provincial Health Minister in Punjab province. She has successfully led the battle against COVID-19 in the province which constitutes 53% of country’s total population and has reported around 29% of the total COVID-19 cases reported countrywide.
Under Dr Yasmin Rashid, Punjab province established 22 bio-safety level laboratories along with a 1,000-bed field hospital in Lahore to especially cater COVID-19 patients.
During her tenure, she introduced typhoid conjugate vaccine in immunization program and SDG-focused development initiatives such as 5 mother and child hospitals.
