Veteran journalist Tariq Mahmood passed away in Islamabad on Thursday (today).
Tariq Mahmood, was diagnosed with COVID-19 coronavirus more than a month ago, however his last test came back negative, said his son.
He was being treated at a local hospital for respiratory issues and eventually succumbed to his illness on Thursday (today).
Dr Mohammad Faisal – Pakistan’s Ambassador to Germany and former MoFA spokesperson took to social media to express grief over Tariq Mahmood’s demise.
Heartbreaking to hear about the death of my friend Tariq Mahmood Malik. He was my star beat reporter during my years as MoFA spokesperson and a very good friend, he tweeted.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), also issued a statement expressing grief over Mr Mahmood’s death.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers its deepest condolences over the sad demise of senior and seasoned journalist, Tariq Mahmood Malik, who covered the Foreign Office for over two decades with great distinction. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the departed soul, his family and friends,” read the official press-release.
Mr Tariq Mahmood’s death is an irreparable loss to the media and journalists’ fraternity. He will be missed profoundly by his friends and colleagues, including in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as millions of his viewers and followers, it added.
