United States of America (USA) has announced to pull back its troops and military personnel from Somalia.
As per details, US President Donald Trump has directed the removal of US military presence from Somalia who were stationed to tackle threat posed by terrorist organizations such as Al-Shabaab militant group.
Around 700 US troops are stationed in Somalia and their withdrawal will be completed in 2021 next year.
However, in a statement US government has reassured that it will continue to degrade violent extremist organizations that threatens their homeland while ensuring to maintain strategic advantage in great power competition.
US has stationed its military personnel and key assets in various countries in the region including Kenya.
These assets mostly comprise of special operations forces which primarily conduct counter-terrorism ops against Al-Qaeda and other extremist organizations.
The development comes as US has already announced to withdraw its forces from Iraq and Afghanistan. President Donald Trump has been an ardent advocate of minimal US intervention and military presence in various countries across the globe.
