United States Special Representative for Afghan Reconciliation process, is expected to reach Pakistan to discuss Intra-Afghan dialogue and peace process with Pakistani government and security establishment.
During his visit, Zalmay Khalilzad is expected to attend high level meeting with civilian and military leadership of Pakistan and seek their support in Afghan peace process to ensure lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region itself.
The visit comes as Zalmay Khalilzad, on Friday, departed on a diplomatic mission to five countries and is expected to visit capitals including Doha, Kabul, Islamabad, Oslo and Sofia.
According to the US State Department, Zalmay Khalilzad will seek diplomatic support and influence for peace talks between Afghan government and the Taliban to ensure a successful ceasefire and lasting peace and stability in the war torn country.
It is to be noted that United States and Taliban agreed upon a peace deal in February 2020 to end the18-year long conflict that has resulted in tens and thousands of Afghan casualties.
The peace deal has provisioned foreign troops withdrawal from Afghanistan, along with prisoner exchange between Afghan government and Taliban, on the condition that Taliban will not pose a threat to US interests and will further prevent any other organization to operate against United States from Afghanistan.
