Washington: President Donald Trump has warned ‘there will be a lot of death’ as the U.S. faces its ‘toughest week’ yet in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking at the White House press briefing on Sunday – April 5, US President stated, “This will be probably the toughest week, between this week and the next week. And there will be a lot of death, unfortunately.”
Speaking to a private news outlet, US Surgeon General Jerome Adams warned “This is going to be our Pearl Harbour moment, our 9/11 moment.”
Earlier, more than 6.6 million Americans had filed for unemployment benefits as the country has observed an exponential increase in unemployment rate due to coronavirus lockdown.
United States has reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the world, reaching 337,072 resulting in 9,619 deaths.
New York has been the epicentre of virus outbreak in the country and has been the worst hit state with 122,031 confirmed cases and 4,159 casualties.
According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, confirmed COVID-19 cases around the world have surpassed 1.27 million while the death toll has neared 70,000.
