Private and public medical universities in Punjab, on Monday, have opposed the promotion of students without examinations.
According to details, a meeting of private and public medical universities vice-chancellors (VCs) was held in Lahore, which decided against the promotion of students without exams. The meeting agreed upon postponing the supplementary examinations of medical and dental colleges in the month of June, and that a uniform policy shall be formulated for exams and online classes amid coronavirus pandemic.
Announcing the decisions made in the meeting, Professor Javed Akram stated that universities cannot afford to promote students without examinations as it will severely damage medical academic process and standard in the country.
He also announced that universities’ semester and academic schedule remains unchanged and will be conducted as per the original schedule.
The meeting also agreed upon conducting special supplementary examinations for the students stranded in different countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prior to this, Higher Education Commission (HEC), on May 19, had instructed all the universities to conduct online classes starting from June 1 to prevent the academic loss of university students amid virus pandemic.
