United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has adopted a Pakistan sponsored resolution on self-determination.
The resolution, which was adopted by 193-member UNGA on December 16th earlier this week calls upon countries to cease military interventions and occupations on foreign lands with immediate effect.
Primary provisions of the UNGA resolution reiterate peoples’ right to self-determination, deplores plight of refugees around the world and firmly opposes military interventions and occupations worldwide.
The resolution urges countries to cease all acts of repression, discrimination, exploitation, maltreatment and abolish inhumane policies.
Meanwhile, UNHRC has also been requested to address violation of human rights regarding matters pertaining to the issue of self-determination.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres has been requested to report on this issue at the 76th session of General Assembly in 2021.
