United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) President Volkan Bozkir met with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qurshi and discussed Palestine, Kashmir issue on Thursday (today).
In a meeting with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi at the foreign office in Islamabad, UNGA President Volkan Bozkir mulled over Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir disputes besides the Afghan peace process.
During the meeting, FM Qureshi praised UNGA President Volkan Bozkir’s efforts amid recent Israeli aggression against Palestinians in Gaza by summoning an emergency session of the UN General Assembly on the conflict which eventually led to the announcement of ceasefire and saved countless Palestinians lives.

In his meeting with FM @SMQureshiPTI, at MOFA today, President of #UNGA75 @volkan_bozkir reiterated that @UN position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute is governed by the UN Charter and relevant #UNSC resolutions, calling for a ‘free and impartial’ plebiscite under the UN auspices

The foreign minister further stressed upon the need for resolution of Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir disputes in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi also accentuated Pakistan’s contribution in Afghan Peace Process.
The development comes as UNGA President Volkan Bozkir is currently in Pakistan on a three-day visit upon FM Qureshi’s invitation.
During his visit, Mr Volkan Bozkir also visited National Defence University (NDU) and delivered an addresse highlighting the significance of multilateralism.

It is to be noted that the UNGA President Volkan Bozkir also visited Pakistan in August 2020 before taking up the prestigious position of President of the UN General Assembly.
Mr Bozkir is the first Turkish national to preside over the UN General Assembly. He is a former diplomat and a senior politician. Following his 39-year long illustrious diplomatic career in the Turkish Foreign Service, Mr Bozkir was elected thrice as member of the Turkish Parliament and has served as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee and Minister for E.U. Affairs.
