LONDON: UK has been urged to arrange for its citizens stuck in Pakistan after a special flight from Islamabad was operated to Germany on Tuesday for the return of German nationals back to their homeland.
Over 200 German nationals were sent back through a Qatar Airways chartered carrier after which the German Ambassador in Pakistan thanked Pakistani authorities on Twitter.
Canadian High Commission has also announced of similar flight arrangements between Lahore and Toronto for return of Canadian citizens.
The national carrier took prior permission from the federal government.
On March 21, Pakistan announced that it had halted all international flight operations till April 4 as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases and deaths increased, leaving foreign nationals who were scheduled to travel stranded.
Among the passengers are over 500 British nationals who are asking their government to act fast to take especially vulnerable citizens back home.
“This is outrageous. We have heard Canadian nationals and German nationals are both being rescued from Pakistan. What is happening for UK nationals?” said a UK national on Twitter.
