WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump on Friday warned countries who are refusing to take back their nationals after US has deported them of permanent visa sanctions.
Trump asserted the need for repatriation of foreign nationals amid the COVID-19 global crisis in a memorandum to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
The president has ordered the state secretary to initiate a plan to impose visa sanctions within a week’s time. He has clearly ordered the Homeland Security Department to indiscriminately sort out countries that are not responding, impeding or delaying in accepting deportees.
The president has made it clear that restricting immigration is the central aim of his administration.
According to new border rules introduced in March, the US could quickly remove people from its territory without necessary immigration proceedings. Under the same drive, the US has recently returned 7,000 immigrants to Mexico.
