Two constables of the Karachi traffic police have been sent to quarantine after they tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.
The traffic police department said more than 5,000 constables are out on the roads performing duties in various shifts. The police officers are directly exposed the virus as they come into contact with citizens while discharging their duties controlling traffic.
The two constables who are now sick were reporting their shifts regularly.
Sindh has reported 227 new coronavirus cases during the past 24 hours, taking the provincial tally to 2,767. Five more deaths from COVID-19 have been reported in Sindh since yesterday and total deaths in the province are 61 now. The death toll in Karachi alone stands at 55.
In a video statement, CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah said that 152 cases have been reported in Karachi; 35 new cases in Khairpur, 6 cases in Shaheed Benazirabad, 7 cases were reported from Hyderabad and 8 new infections confirmed in Tando Muhammad Khan. Recovered cases stand at 635 whereas a total of 1600 tests were conducted on Monday.
