Three healthcare workers working at Lahore’s Mayo Hospital have contracted COVID-19 coronavirus despite being inoculated against the novel virus.
As per details, four healthcare workers including a doctor, head nurse, ward in-charge have been diagnosed with COVID-19 after being inoculated against it a few days earlier.
The effected doctor received COVID-19 vaccine on February 23rd and developed coronavirus symptoms five days later.
Meanwhile, the head nurse affected by COVID-19 developed symptoms after 15 days of her inoculation.
A total of 1,100 healthcare workers and staff working at Lahore’s Mayo Hospital have received COVID-19 vaccine.
According to SAPM on Health Dr Faisal Sultan more than 140,000 healthcare workers in the country have been inoculated against COVID-19 so far.
It is pertinent to know that Pakistan launched nationwide COVID-19 vaccination process on February 3rd earlier this month in order to curb the spread of novel virus in the country.
Furthermore, Pakistan is set to receive 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine under ‘COVAX’ initiative of World Health Organization (WHO). COVAX initiative will see a total of 238.2 million vaccine doses being distributed among various countries across the world.
Pakistan will receive 14,640,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses; Indonesia – 11,704,800 doses; Bangladesh – 10,908,000 doses; Brazil – 9,122,400 doses and Nigeria will receive 13,656,000 doses.
A total of 142 countries around the world are expected to benefit from WHO’s COVAX programme.
The COVID-19 vaccination drive was launched simultaneously in federal capital along with provincial capitals namely Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar.
Pakistan received 500,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses from China on February 1st. The COVID-19 vaccine has been manufactured by a Chinese state-owned company ‘Sinopharm’.
