TAF Foundation organized a Panel Discussion on the TAF Foundation WILL-AGE Initiative in support of the United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing on Wednesday earlier this week at the TAF Foundation Head Office, Karachi.
The panelists included local and international speakers namely Prof Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi (VC Women University of Swabi, KP), Dr Nadir Ali Syed (Consultant Neurologist), Dr Hina Hussain Kazmi (CEO TAFF, Social Development Specialist), Prof Dr Jo-Ann Rolle (Dean School of Business, City University, NY), Prof Dr Dianne Davis (Council of Caring Communities, USA), and Dr Robin Majeski (Clinical Associate Professor, University of Maryland, USA). The latter three international speakers participated virtually.
The session was moderated by Ms Ambreen Asif Qureshi (VP IntellAct Consultants). Several field experts from academia, social sector, and healthcare attended the event as guests.
The local panelists, focusing on the Pakistani perspective, also talked about the biggest challenge of healthy ageing being the lack of quality of life, deprivation, and burden of preventable diseases. On the other hand, the international panelists talked about how cultural institutions can help add life to years after retirement by creating “happiness centers”. The discussion created an insightful bridge between the local and international perspectives and ideas.
At the end of the panel discussion, Dr Hina Hussain, on behalf of TAF Foundation, officially declared entering into the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030).
The panel discussion will be followed by a series of discussions where field experts, the vulnerable, and international organizations and policymakers will be invited to join hands and work towards sustainable interventions to support the UN and WHO in this Decade of Healthy Ageing
