Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has barred sale, transfer and leasing of Pakistan Railways (PR) land and property.
During a hearing at SC Karachi Registry on Monday (today) the top court reprimanded Pakistan Railways over its performance and existing corruption highlighting that its officers are involved in illegal sale of department’s land.
Terming Pak-Sukkur railway track as ‘unsafe’, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed remarked that 80% of the track is dysfunctional and poses threat to people’s lives.
The apex court also directed to submit a detailed report on PR’s performance.
Demolish Karachi’s Aladdin Mall, Pavilion End Club
Separately, SC has directed authorities to demolish Aladdin Mall and Pavilion End Club constructed at Karachi’s Aladdin Park.
The court has argued that the land has been illegally converted the park into a commercial enterprise, said the Supreme Court.
Supreme Court has given a two-day deadline to authorities to comply with court orders.
Additionally, the apex court has also ordered government to vacate UBL Sports Complex on Rashid Minhas Road along with 36,000 plots that have been illegally constructed upon.
Earlier in the day, the court had rejected please against anti-encroachment operation along Karachi’s Gujjar and Orangi nullahs, directing authorities to continue demolishing illegal constructions along these drains as well as others.
