Sugar inquiry commission is expected to submit its report on sugar crisis to Prime Minister Imran Khan today.
The Sugar inquiry commission, has interview various government and non-governmental personnel including Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar, Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar, special advisor to prime minister on comer Razzak Dawood, sugar mill owners, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and various other relevant stake holders regarding sugar crisis scandal, specifically sugar import decisions and the subsidies provided by the government to various private sugar mills.
Sources say that the report is being finalized and will be submitted to Prime Minister Imran Khan today (Thursday).
It is to be noted that the inquiry report has been facing continuous delays, and had already passed its previous deadline of April 25, which was then eventually extended to May by the federal cabinet.
The development comes as on May 3, the commission had again asked for more time to complete its inquiry as it was facing various hurdles in obtaining essential records and data due to coronavirus crisis.
The sugar inquiry commission was formed on the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan to investigate and identify the individuals responsible for the wheat and sugar crisis that gripped the country earlier this year. The commission is headed by Director General (DG) Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Wajid Zia.
