KARACHI: An auspicious event denoting the celebration of Sindh’s rich cultural heritage ‘Story of Indus Civilization’ was held at the Iqra University-Main Campus yesterday.
The event was made possible after the persistent and relentless efforts of the Project Director and Editor-in-Chief Voice of Sindh, Dr. Umair Haroon. The entire event and the book were his brainchild and a passion project which he has shown great commitment to and worked meticulously on.
A book on the theme has been compiled and is currently in the process of publication under the banner of Voice of Sindh, an organization dedicated to creating awareness and spreading knowledge to the masses and international audiences on the rich and diverse history of Sindh, its origins, and promising future.
The event’s highlight was a performance piece called ‘Dastaan Goyi’ performed by the uber-talented duo of Fawad Khan and Meesum Naqvi who read an all-encompassing script penned by our Editor Urdu, Voice of Sindh, Iqbal Khursheed referencing what the book was about and why people should read it.
Dastaan Goyi is the art of oratory performance that tells a story in a particular background with added theatrics and emotive gesturing that is sure to enthrall and excite the audiences and hold their attention.
Project Director and Editor in Chief, Voice of Sindh, Dr. Umair Haroon, and Hunaid Lakhani Chairman Iqra University the main driving forces of this momentous work of art were given glowing tributes for envisioning the idea and then executing it with such grace and grandeur.
The book aims to revitalize the lost connection of the people of this land to their glorious past in which it was dubbed ‘the cradle of civilization’ while also trying to hook in a wider reader base who will get to know the historical and cultural significance of this land and its contributions to the global society as a whole.
