Prime Minister Imran Khan has instructed the formation of a special committee to investigate into the plight of women prisoners imprisoned in various facilities across the country.
The development comes as concerns have been raised regarding unhygienic and inhumane conditions of women prisons in Pakistan.
The committee will be headed by the minister for Human Rights and will probe into possible administrative negligence and policy loopholes regarding women prisons in the country.
Furthermore, the committee will also recommend and formulate detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) and administrative guidelines to improve the living conditions of women prisoners.
In addition to it, it will also re-evaluate the condition of children accompanying their inmate mothers in prisons, and will submit recommendations regarding their education, skill development and social rehabilitation and re-integration.
