Mir Siraj Khan Raisani is being remembered today on his third martyrdom anniversary on July 18th Tuesday (today).
Raisani was a prominent Baloch politician and leader and was associated with Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and was known for his bold public stance against Baloch separatist and insurgents.
Siraj Raisani was the Chairperson of chairperson of Balochistan Muttahida Mahaz, a party which was later merged with BAP.
Martyrdom
Siraj Raisani was martyrdom in a suicide attack while on the trail in his campaign for the Balochistan Provincial Assembly seat of PB-35 (Mastung) in Daringarh.
The blast also killed 128 other people and injured more than 200.
Raisani was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Kanak area of Mastung on 14 July 2018.
His funeral was attended by dignitaries from across Pakistan, including COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa and interim Chief Minister of Baluchistan, Alauddin Marri. A day of national mourning was also declared.
Siraj Raisani was the youngest brother of former Balochistan chief minister Nawab Aslam Raisani and former Senator Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani.
The responsibility of the suicide bombing was claimed by ISIL.
United States also condemned the attack on Siraj Raisani. United States termed the attack on Raisani as a cowardly attempt to deprive the Pakistani people of their democratic rights.
Pakistani security forces later avenged Siraj Raisani by killing ISIL terrorist ‘Nawaz alias Sindhi’ in a raid in Mastung.
A True Patriot
A true patriot and a proud Pakistani, Siraj Raisani raised his voice against anti-Pakistani groups for which he received many death threats throughout his political career.
He was advised by some to not to campaign in public and was instead offered a ticket for Senate. However, he declined and insisted that he wanted to serve the people of his country.
Raisani was an eyesore for the enemies of Pakistan who perceived him as a significant hurdle in their nefarious plans to destabilize Pakistan.
