Sindh transporters have hinted at resuming inter-city bus services after May 20, with or without Sindh government’ approval.
According to Rab Nawaz – President Sindh Intercity Bus Association, if the transporters were not allowed to resume bus services they will be forced to unilaterally do so, with or without the approval of Sindh government.
Furthermore, the transporters have also warned of province-wide protests if the government tries to stop them, or any action is taken against them.
“We are already suffering financially. We don’t have money to feed our kids. If we are stopped to operate after May 20, there will be a protest,” he noted.
The transporter’s representative also highlighted the fact that Sindh government had promised that it will allow the resumption of bus services if the federal government approves it.
Urging the Sindh government to allow the resumption of bus services he also stated that Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa governments have also permitted the intercity and intra-city transporters to resume their operations.
Expressing concerns over the SOPs and guidelines restricting the passenger limit, Rab Nawaz stated, “We will have to charge more. What benefit will bus owners, employees, contractors and even the passengers will get with this relaxation,” he said.
Meanwhile Sindh government has stated that the inter-city bus services will be allowed to resume three days after Eid and the SOPs and guidelines required for the resumption of bus services are being formulated and that a four-point summary has already been sent to the Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah for approval.
It is pertinent to know that public transport, including inter-city bus services have been suspended since March in a bid to curb the coronavirus spread.
