Sindh government on Tuesday, announced its decision to establish its own medical and dental council amid Pakistan Medical Council (PMC) row.
Dr Azra Pechuho – Sindh Health Minister has announced government’s decision to establish Sindh Medical and Dental Council (SMDC) over province’s reservations and objections against PMC.
According to provincial health minister, a draft regarding SMDC has already been prepared and the bill will be approved from Sindh Assembly within three months.
The development comes as Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) was dissolved by federal government, replacing it with Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) via issuing a presidential ordinance.
Meanwhile, Islamabad High Court (IHC) in its decision, had earlier declared the dissolution of PMDC.
Medical fraternity has overwhelmingly condemned and voiced their concerns against the establishment of PMC, contending that the step will degrade academic standards, turning medical institutions into ‘profit oriented’ businesses.
