Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of heatwave in various cities across Sindh and Punjab in July this month.
In its ‘Drought Bulletin’, PMD had warned that heatwave conditions will continue to persist in major cities of Sindh, Southern Punjab and Balochistan in July.
The strong incursion of monsoon currents and their interaction with westerly weather systems will cause normal to above-normal rainfall in the upper half of Pakistan, said PMD.
Meanwhile, normal rainfall is expected over the country during the current month.
However, Rise in temperatures in high altitudes are likely to cause snowmelt in northern areas resulting in glacial flooding and Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (Glof), which is a type of outburst flood caused by the failure of a dam containing a glacial lake.
Met Department’s Drought Report has also highlighted drought-prone areas in Balochistan and Sindh namely hagi, Kharan, Panjgur, Awaran, Washuk and Kech areas in Balochistan.
Whereas in Sindh, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas and Sanghar, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Hyderabad, Khairpur, Larkana, Dadu, Nawabshah and Jamshoro are facing drought conditions.
