Karachi: Sindh government, in a bid to provide relief to people amid coronavirus lockdown has started distributing ration bags in district east of the metropolitan city.
Ration bags were distributed in the early hours of Saturday morning in various areas of Lines Area.
The initiative was supervised by Chairman District East and the ration bags constituted of essential grocery items, enough for two weeks of supply.
In addition to the ration distribution, the disinfectant was also sprayed in the locality in a bid to curb the virus spread.
According to Imtiaz Shaikh, Provincial Minister for Energy, Sindh government has increased ration funds up to Rs1.1 billion to assist desperate families bearing the brunt of financial hardships due to province-wide lockdown.
By Monday, the provincial government intends to transfer Rs3,000 to around two million people via mobile apps.
Earlier, Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shallwani had announced that the ration will be distributed between 5 pm to 7 pm with the help of assistant commissioners and the representatives of the Union Councils.
