Sindh government has banned swimming and bating in sea on Eid ul Fitr as part of the preventive and precautionary measures to prevent large gatherings on the occasion.
According to the notification issued by Sindh Home Department, a ban has been imposed on swimming and bathing on beaches and in canals across the province under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) of the constitution.
The decision has been made upon receiving requests from Karachi and Hyderabad commissioners who had urged the government to impose a temporary ban on such activities on Eid holidays to ensure the implementation of social distancing measures aimed at curbing the virus spread.
The development comes as Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah has urged people to celebrate Eid with simplicity and abstain from going out in public, and warned that the number of COVID-19 cases in the province might significantly increase in the next two weeks due to the reopening of markets and shopping malls.
Prior to this, Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Anwar ul Haq, had also announced that hotels and tourists attraction in Murree will remain closed on Eid ul Fitr as a preventive measure amid coronavirus crisis.
