The Sindh High Court (SHC), has dismissed a plea seeking for the names of COVID-19 patients to be made public, on Tuesday.
Hearing a petition seeking for the publication of names of COVID-19 patients, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar rebuked the petitioner Imran Shahzad for wanting to publicise the names of coronavirus patients.
“What kind of a petition is this? Who are you and why do you want to know the names of the people infected with the virus,” he said.
“Will the people who have already recovered from the virus be comfortable with their name being made public in this regard?” he questioned.
The judge also expressed displeasure over such trivial matters being brought to court and inquired about the reasons behind the petitioner request for the COVID-19 patients’ name being made public.
The petitioner Imran Shahzad responded to judge’s remarks stating that he wanted to know about the details of the treatment being given to patients and want to compare the deaths from last year to deaths this year.
To which Justice Mazhar replied that no cure has been developed for COVID-19.
“Why do you wish to know about the deaths from 2019?” said the judge.
The court then dismissed the plea asking the petitioner to withdraw any further unnecessary requests.
