Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday, heard the petition against the Provincial government over its failure to implement federal government’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) regarding congregational prayers in the holy month of Ramazan amid COVID-19 crisis.

A SHC division bench, chaired by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar heard the petition seeking the abrogation of 18th amendment, in which the petitioner has urged the court to abrogate the 18th amend mend so that the centre can implement its SOPs as Sindh government failed to do so.
The court has issued notices to Sindh chief secretary and other provincial officials, instructing them to submit their replies by May 7.
However, Justice Mazhar noted that the court lacks authority to abrogate a constitutional amendment, and the legislature is responsible for such changes not the judiciary.
Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, on Tuesday, confirmed that the province has recorded 335 new COVID-19 cases and seven deaths in the last 24 hours.
CM Sindh clarified that 35 coronavirus patients are in critical situation while 13 patients are on ventilator.
Out of 335 new coronavirus cases, 291 have been reported in Karachi, he noted.
Sindh has reported a total of 5,231 confirmed coronavirus cases with 963 recoveries and 92 deaths so far.
