Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday, extended bail of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi – senior vice president PML-N in illegal appointment case.
Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi appeared before the court on Thursday and urged the court to extend his bail in illegal appointment case.
The court approved Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s bail plea extension along with other accused individuals including Arshad Mirza, Imranul Haque and Yakoob Babar.
Meanwhile, SHC expressed its displeasure over the absence of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials and questioned the fact that reference was filed while neither a notice was sent to Khaqan Abbasi nor any investigation was conducted by the accountability watchdog.
However, the court has directed Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and other accused individuals to be put on Exit Control List (ECL) to prevent them from leaving the country.
NAB has accused Mr Abbasi of misusing his authority as federal petroleum minister to illegally appoint Sheikh Imran-ul-Haq and Yaqoob Sattar as Managing Director (MD) and Deputy MD Finance respectively.
According to NAB officials, illegal appointments had cost national treasury of up to Rs 1.38 billion as Mr Imran-ul-Haq received a salary of Rs 4.95 million and Mr Waqoob Sattar Rs 2.7 millon per month.
