Shahid Khaqan Abbasi – senior Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and former Prime Minister has appealed Islamabad High Court (IHC) to grant protective bail in illegal appointment case against him.
As per the details, the former Prime Minister has filed a petition in IHC seeking to secure protective bail in illegal appointment case.
His lawyer, Barrister Zafarullah Khan filed the petition on his behalf seeking for a pre-arrest bail till May 12, highlighting the fact that National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi, has already issued arrest warrants and he is unable to appear before the accountability court in Karachi due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
It is to be noted that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, on March 31, had succeeded in securing four-week protective bail from IHC.
It is pertinent to know that NAB is currently investigating a case against Mr Abbasi, accusing him of illegal appointment of Imran-ul-Haq as managing director PSO.
A reference was filed by the NAB last year against Mr Abbasi, Mr Ismail, former managing director of the Pakistan State Oil (PSO) Sheikh Imran-ul- Haq, former chairman of OGRASaeed Ahmed Khan, OGRAchairperson Uzma Adil Khan, Engro group chairman Hussain Dawood, former chairman of the Port Qasim Authority (PQA) Agha Jan Akhtar, former member of OGRA Aamir Naseem, another former managing director of PSO Shahid M. Islam and PSO official Abdul Sammad.
In addition to it, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is also accused of illegally awarding a 15-year contract for LNG terminal while serving as petroleum minister in Nawaz Sharif’s cabinet. He later managed to secure bail from IHC.
