Islamabad High Court (IHC), on Tuesday, granted protective bail to senior Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
The two-member bench, headed by IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the Mr Abbasi’s appeal of pre-arrest bail in illegal appointment case.
The Court has granted three weeks of protective bail to Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and former petroleum secretary Arshad Mirza, barring National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from arresting these individuals.
Earlier, on Monday, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has filed a petition in IHC seeking pre-arrest bail in illegal appointment case, stating that he is unable to travel to Karachi due to coronavirus lockdown restrictions.
It is to be noted that IHC a four-week pre-arrest bail to Mr Abbasi on March 31 as well.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is accused
of awarding a 15-year contract for an LNG terminal allegedly when he was
petroleum minister in former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s cabinet, along with illegal
appointment of Imran-ul-Haq as managing director Pakistan State Oil (PSO), when
he held the designation of Prime Minister of Pakistan.
