Punjab police has taken 12 people into custody suspected of robbing and raping a woman on the Sialkot-Lahore motorway on Tuesday night.
According to Inspector-General (IG) Punjab Police Inam Ghani, 20 police teams are working on the case under a DIG level police officer to find out the culprits behind the heinous crime.
The teams also include personnel from Special Branch, CIA and Investigation Police.
Twelve men have been taken into custody, whereas 70 people have been shortlisted for their suspected involvement in robbing and raping a woman at Gujjarpura area on Sialkot-Lahore motorway.
IG Inam Ghani has said that the police has successfully located the village where the culprits belonged from and that they have recovered key evidence from the incident site which for now cannot be disclosed as the investigation is still in process.
Geo-fencing has been carried out by police, meanwhile National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has also been approached to assist in the identification of the culprits.
It is pertinent to know that the victim – a mother of two, was travelling with her children on Sialkot-Lahore motorway along with her two children when her car ran out of fuel at the Gujjarpura section at around 1:30am on Tuesday night.
The victim had duly informed and shared her location with a relative and even tried approaching Motorway Police via their helpline, however she received no response from the latter.
Meanwhile, two robbers approached the car, broke the window and then raped the victim repeatedly in front of her children.
The robbers also took Rs 100,000 in cash, a bracelet, car registration and three ATM cards with them.
Shehbaz Gill – Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Political Communication, has stated that CCTV footages and DNA analysis is underway to further narrow down and find the suspects behind the incident.
