Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has challenged nomination papers filed by former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani for upcoming Senate elections.
As per details, Fareed Rehman – PTI’s candidate for Senate elections, has challenged the nomination papers filed by senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Yousuf Raza Gilani for the March 3rd Senate elections.
Fareed Rehman has argued that Yousuf Raza Gilani has intentionally ‘hid’ significant facts in his nomination papers filed for the upcoming Senate elections.
Former PM Yousuf Raza Gilani does not fulfill the eligibility criteria for Senate elections under Article 62 of the Constitution of Pakistan as he failed to apprise/declare himself as a ‘convicted’ individual in the nomination papers, argued Fareed Rehman in his application.
Mr Gilani was convicted on ‘contempt of court’ charges On 26 April 2012 by the Supreme Court of Pakistan while he was serving as country’s Prime Minister.
It is to be noted that former PM Yousuf Raza Gilani has been unanimously named as a candidate for Senate elections from Islamabad.
