The Senate of Pakistan has approved a recommendation for an increase in the Federal Excise Duty (FED) on cigarettes.
The recommendation of 100percent increase in FED was given by Senator Kalsoom Perveen of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance.
Meeting of the finance committee was chaired by Senator Farooq H. Naik here in Islamabad.
The Senate standing committee also approved recommendations presented by Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif to increase tax, duty on tobacco products.
He recommended increasing Rs 30 per packet on TETON cigarettes.
The standing committee on Finance also recommended increasing duty on high price cigarettes and less FED on low price cigarettes.
