The Supreme Court (SC) registrar has forwarded three names to the parliamentary committee for the appointment of the new chief justice of Pakistan (CJP).
As per details, the SC registrar has forwarded three names to the parliamentary committee after receiving a letter from the law ministry.
The ministry requested the SC office to forward the names of the three most senior judges of the apex court.
Meanwhile, the 12-member Special Parliamentary Committee, constituted for the first time in the country’s history for the appointment of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), held its first round of meeting at the Parliament House on Tuesday.
The in-camera meeting of the parliamentary panel comprising government and opposition members held at room no 5 of the Parliament House.
However, the members belonging to the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) skipped the meeting, prompting the committee members to meet again later tonight at 8:30pm.
