Riyadh: Saudi government announced to extend travel ban on iqama holders as the country grapples with coronavirus outbreak.
As per the statement issued by Saudi officials, iqama holders stranded abroad have been directed to remain in their respective localities while those who are currently in Saudi Arabia with expired iqamas have been allowed to extend their stay in the country by two months.
Earlier on April 2, Saudi Arabia had imposed a 24-hour curfew in the Muslim holy cities of Mecca and Medina, which was extended to Dammam, Taif and al-Qatif the following day.
It is imperative to know that Saudi government, earlier this week, had urged Muslims to temporarily defer preparations for the annual pilgrimage which is due to take place at the end of July as the country is struggling to tackle coronavirus spread.
Saudi Arabia has reported a total of 2,039 confirmed coronavirus cases with 25 deaths so far.
