The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet today for Shawwal moon sighting and the announcement of Eid ul Fitr.
The meeting will be held in Karachi and will be presided by Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman, whereas zonal committees will also held their meetings in their respective provincial offices.
Fawad Chaudhry’s Ministry of Science and Technology and Ruet e Hilal Committee have been exchanging heated arguments on the issue of moon sighting. Fawad Chaudhry has demanded the dissolution of Ruet e Hilal committee on multiple occasions. In response ministry of religious affairs asked the Meteorological Office to refrain from moon forecasting.
Prior to this, Fawad Chaudhry had predicted that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on May 24 (Sunday) in Pakistan, and had accused Ruet e Hilal committee of wanting the Eid to fall on May 25 Monday.
It is to be noted that Saudi
Arabia and UAE has already announced the sighting of Shawwal moon and will celebrate Eid ul Fitr on May 24 Saturday.
