The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) approved an Rs 1.09 per unit tariff hike for K-Electric customers on Wednesday.
Abdul Hafeez Shaikh – Advisor to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Finance and Revenue, chaired the ECC meeting in Islamabad and approved quarterly adjustment of K-Electric tariff for the period 2016 to 2019.
Furthermore, the ECC has directed Finance and power divisions to provide Rs 4 billion of subsidy to K-Electric.
Prior to this, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) had approved 84 paisa per unit hike in power tariff on Tuesday a day earlier.
The tariff hike was issued on accounts of fuel adjustments due to increase in electricity cost as a result of increased fuel prices.
It is to be noted that ECC had previously increase K-Electric tariff by Rs 2.89 per unit back in July this year.
