Football legend Cristiano Ronaldo may have started a free kick war with his son Cristiano Ronaldo Jr after sharing a video of himself on social media recently.
In a video shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, Ronaldo Jr showcased his football prowess akin to his father, expertly netting a top-right corner free kick while practising with Chelsea academy talent and under-18 (U18) player Yahya Idrissi.
In response to his son, the 38-year-old captain of Saudia Arabia’s Al Nassr posted a video of himself on his Instagram where he scored a similar free kick from the same location and on the same side of the goalpost.
“Cris, this was better than yours,” said the Real Madrid icon as he waved his hands and pointed at the camera after he scored the free kick followed by his iconic celebration “Siuuu”.
The post was captioned: “Cris, Watch and Learn”. They scored outrageous free kicks giving the internet a father-son bonding moment, but will Ronaldo Jr escalate the friendly free kick battle with his superstar dad remains a question.
Ronaldo Jr signed a three-year contract with Al Nassr, similar to his father, and will continue playing for the academy, EssentiallySports reported.
Since then, Ronaldo Jr has made a significant impact in the youth setup, scoring goals and shushing players.
However, while Ronaldo Jr may have the pressure in mind to tread his dad’s glorious career path, Ronaldo wants him to do things as per his wish.
In an interview, he admitted that he “constantly” follows Ronaldo Jr but doesn’t “pressure” him. The Al Nassr star also claimed that his 13-year-old son has his “own way” just like his dad.
