Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), has accused Roger Stone – a former close aid of President Donald Trump, of being in contact with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
According to the documents released by FBI, Roger Stone assured Julian Assange of his support if he in any way pursued by prosecutors.
The documents quote him saying, “I will bring down the entire house of cards.”
Furthermore, the documents reveal Stone assuring Assange that the source of the information is of no importance as long as the information “is accurate and authentic”.
In his conversations with Julian Assange, Roger Stone also cited 1971 Supreme Court ruling that permitted the publication of Pentagon Papers.
While referring to the sexual assault case against Julian Assange which was being investigated by Swedish officials, Stone boasted that if sexual assault charges against him (Julian Assange) can be dropped, he need not to worry about anything else.
The documents then cite Julian Assange responding to Roger Stone’s messages saying, “Between CIA and DoJ they’re doing quite a lot. On the DoJ side that’s coming most strongly from those obsessed with taking down Trump trying to squeeze us into a deal.”
To which Stone replied that he would deal with the issue at the highest government level possible.
The records also reveal Trump campaign’s interest in the information being leaked by WikiLeaks. Steve Bannon – former White House advisor, has been quoted saying that he spoke to Stone regarding Julian Assange and hoped for more information to be leaked that might hurt the Democrats.
Roger Stone, on Tuesday, has confirmed the leaked documents and communication records as authentic, but maintained that these documents do not prove that he broke any law.
“I have no trepidation about their release as they confirm there was no illegal activity and certainly no Russian collusion by me during the 2016 Election. “There is, to this day, no evidence that I had or knew about the source or content of the Wikileaks disclosures prior to their public release,” he noted.
It is pertinent to remember, that it was Julian Assange’s website –WikiLeaks, that publicised Democratic emails hacked by Russians during the 2016 presidential election, which immensely benefited Donald Trump in his campaign against Democratic candidate Hilary Clinton.
Last year, in February, Roger Stone was sentenced to 40 months in prison in Mueller’s investigation case that also saw Trump’s another five associates being convicted for lying to Congress, obstructing justice and tampering with a witness.
The documents have been made public as a result of a petition filed by Associated Press and various media organizations demanding the documents and affidavits to be made public.
