Federal government on Wednesday (today), appointed Qazi Jameel-ur-Rehman as new Inspector General (IG) Islamabad Police.
Qazi Jameel-ur-Rehman will take charge as new Islamabad Police Chief replacing Amir Zulfiqar. The newly appointed IG Islamabad Police has previously served in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Earlier in the day, Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC)extended physical remand of five Islamabad policemen in Usama Nadeem murder case by seven days.
The development comes as Islamabad Police has been facing severe public backlash over the extra-judicial killing of 21-year-old Usama Nadeem on Saturday.
The police had opened fire on Usama’s vehicle on Srinagar Highway citing that he failed to heed to police’s warnings urging him to stop the vehicle.
Usama Nadeem’s parents have appealed Supreme Court Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed to take suo motu notice of the extra-judicial killing of their son.
The parents have rejected the police inquiry and have called for a judicial commission to be set up to investigate the incident.
