Punjab government has further tightened COVID-19 restrictions amid increasing cases in the province.
Under the new COVID-19 restrictions imposed by Punjab government, wedding ceremonies both indoor and outdoor will be banned from April 1st.
CM Punjab Usman Buzdar announced the government’s decision to impose new COVID-19 restrictions as part of government’s bid to counter third coronavirus wave.
The decision to re-impose new COVID-19 restrictions was made in a meeting which was attended by provincial ministers Raja Basharat, Dr Yasmin Rahsid, Mian Aslam Iqbal, Murad Raas, Yasir Humayon, Firdous Ashiq Awan and other senior government officials.
Operational timings of markets, shopping centers/malls have also been reduced which will close at 6 pm. Furthermore, indoor and outdoor dining at restaurants have also been banned with permission to provide take-away facilities only.
Meanwhile, the Orange Line Metro Train and Metro Bus services will close at 6pm as part of the new COVID-19 restrictions.
The development comes as Punjab has witnessed a significant spike in COVID-19 cases with positivity ratio surpassing 8% mark in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Okara, Gujranwala, Rahim Yar Khan, Sheikhupura, Multan, Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha, Sialkot and Toba Tek Singh.
Punjab recorded 2,823 new COVID-19 infections on Saturday March 27 with Lahore emerging as the worst affected city with 1,725 cases alone.
