ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Television (PTV) fee has been increased from Rs 35 to Rs 100 by the federal government on Saturday.
The fee would be collected through electricity bills of the citizens whether the citizens watch the state channel or not.
According to the reports, there would be an increment in collection of Rs 21 billion by increasing fee every year, which would be three times the last collection i.e. Rs 7.5 billion.
Currently, revenue is collected by airing private advertisements on the state channel by the federal government annually.
Moreover, the government of Pakistan has not paid Rs 6 bn to the media houses for last years. The private media and government are at odds with respect to the non-payment issue.
Restrictions are also in place for the major media houses, resulting in shutting down of numerous channels and print houses.
