Shaheen Raza – a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member and a sitting MPA in Punjab Assembly passed away due to coronavirus in Lahore on Wednesday.
As per the statement made by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sohail Ashraf, the PTI MPA was shifted to hospital after her health deteriorated. She eventually succumbed to the novel virus on Wednesday.
The decease was admitted in the hospital three days ago and also suffered from blood pressure and diabetes, said Mayo Hospital CEO Dr Asad Aslam.
Ms Raza is the first Pakistani politician to die due to coronavirus as several politicians including Governor Sindh Imran Ismail, PPP leader Saeed Ghani, NA speaker Asad Qaiser and others have been affected by COVID-19.
Prior to this, Mian Muhammad Sareer, the older brother of Awami National Party General Secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain, succumbed to the novel coronavirus on Tuesday, whereas the ANP leader itself has tested positive for the novel virus as well.
The total number of coronavirus cases in Pakistan stands at 45,898 with 13,086 recoveries and 986 deaths so far.
