In the wake of COVID-19 crisis, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has extended its deadline for unregistered IMEIs for another 30 days.
The decision to further extend the blocking of cell phones with unregistered IMEIs has been made to facilitate the consumers as a country-wide lockdown has been imposed by governments and businesses, markets and network franchises have been instructed to shut down completely.
PTA has announced that blocking of such cell phone devices will commence from 19th May 2020, and will be informed via SMS.
According to PTA regulations, cell phone devices using local SIM are obligated to registration within 60 days – starting from the first use.
Device Identification Registration & Blocking System (DIRBS) was launched by PTA, through a portal by which users can register their cell phone devices.
Consumers can either visit the website https://dirbs.pta.gov.pk/drs or can dial *8484# to register their cell phones.
