Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives – Asad Umar, on Monday, announced that provinces will get 1,000 COVID-19 ICU beds due to continuous and exponential increase in coronavirus cases.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Asad Umar announced that the NCOC has agreed upon to assist provincial governments in coping with the continuous surge in coronavirus cases as hospitals have been struggling due to diminishing availability of hospital beds.

“Burden on hospitals is rising due to a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases and deaths. In this regard, the federal government has decided to consult with all provinces regarding the provision of 1000 more ICU beds for Covid-19 patients,” he noted.
Asad Umar also took to social media to announce the provision of hospital beds for provinces.
“We have decided in the NCOC meeting this morning that the federal government will ensure increase of 1000 beds with oxygen supply capability in the major cities of the country within the month of June,” he tweeted.
Prior to this NCOC had provided ventilators to various hospitals across the country, 72 were given to Punjab, Sindh – 52, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – 52, Balochistan – 20, whereas additional ventilators were provided to Gilgit Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and Islamabad as well.
