Prime Minister Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday compared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan to the Indian extremist organisation Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as police and his party workers clash at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore.
Several police personnel and PTI workers were injured in clashes as the police have been engaged in operations at Zaman Park since March 14.
Police have arrested over 35 PTI workers who were, according to the police authorities, involved in illegal acts.
Imran Khan remained holed up at his Zaman Park residence for several days as long as the police operation was underway as the PTI chief resisted arrest in the Toshakhana case.
Clashes between police and Imran Khan’s supporters
To ensure that they stopped police from arresting Imran Khan, the PTI workers had also thrown Molotov cocktails at Rangers and police personnel while they also burnt police vehicles.
“If anyone had any doubt, Imran Khan Niazi’s antics of the previous few days have laid bare his fascist and militant tendencies,” PM Shehbaz said in a tweet.
“From using masses as human shields to throwing petrol bombs at police personnel to leading ‘jathas’ to intimidate judiciary, Khan has taken a leaf out of the RSS book,” the prime minister added.
