ISLAMABAD: Presednet Arif Alvi approved the appointment of Jameel Ahmed as Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan. Jameel Ahmed has also served as deputy governor central bank.
A notification issued in this regard by the Finance Division on Friday morning said that he has been appointed for a five-year term.
Ahmed was picked from a roster of four names that also included interim governor Dr Murtaza Syed, Asif Mairaj and Dr Saeed Ahmed.
Jameel Ahmad is the strongest contender among his peers.
He was previously appointed as the deputy governor of SBP on October 25, 2018, for a three-year term. He holds 30 years of experience in the banking sector.
The post had fallen vacant after Dr Reza Baqir completed his three-year term on May 4, 2022.
