Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has announced to resign from Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) steering committee over the issue of show cause notices that were issued earlier.
PPP’s Raja Pervez Ashraf, Sherry Rehman, and Qamar Zaman Kaira will be resigning from the PDM steering committee after the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) criticized PDM’s decision to issue show cause notices as PPP and any other party included in PDM is subordinate to anyone.
Earlier, Awami National Party (ANP) had also announced to completely dissociate from Pakistan Democratic Movement – the 11-party anti-government opposition alliance on April 6th last week.
It is to be noted that PDM had issued show cause notices to ANP and PPP over accusations of violating anti-government alliance’s principles by collaborating with federal government’s allies.
Both parties were directed to submit their response within a within a week over allegations of collaborating with Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) for the election of Yousuf Raza Gilani as leader of opposition in Senate.
It is to be noted that PPP leader and former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani was elected as Senate opposition leader on March 26th via securing support of 30 Opposition senators for the prized post which has been a matter of contention between the PML-N and the PPP.
